About Us
At Unity Ice Academy we strive to provide access and education to the sport of figure skating and instill life lessons of determination, confidence, and drive in children.

UNITY ICE ACADEMY

WHO WE ARE

Unity Ice Academy was founded on a simple yet powerful belief — that every child deserves the chance to discover their potential, no matter their background. Through the art and discipline of figure skating, we help young people build confidence, character, and a lifelong sense of possibility.

Ice skating has the power to inspire courage and resilience, but access to the sport has long been limited by high costs and lack of opportunity. Many children with natural talent and passion never get the chance to step onto the ice.

We’re here to change that. Unity Ice Academy creates pathways for all children to experience the joy and personal growth that skating brings. Our programs focus on accessibility, equity, and mentorship — providing coaching, equipment, and community support to help every child thrive both on and off the ice.

At Unity Ice Academy, we’re not just teaching skating — we’re shaping the next generation of confident, compassionate, and driven young people ready to make their mark on the world.

ASHLEIGH ELLIS

OUR FOUNDER

Growing up as a competitive figure skater, Ashleigh Ellis was the only person of color from a working class family at her figure skating rink and many of the competitions she competed in. She knew what it meant to feel the lack of diversity in the sport she loved so deeply.

As the leader of Unity Ice Academy, Ashleigh Ellis will bring great value to the company. She truly believes that figure skating has altered her life in such a great way by helping her always believe in herself. This put her on a positive & confident path to young adulthood and graduating college. She is ready to motivate and inspire young children.

STARR ANDREWS

ON-ICE DIRECTOR

As a prominent figure in the world of figure skating and a distinguished member of Team USA, Andrews has competed at the highest levels internationally, showcasing her exceptional talent. Notably, in 2022, she made history as the first African American woman to earn a medal in singles during the Grand Prix.

Andrews continued her trailblazing journey in 2023 by securing a remarkable third-place finish at the US Championships, becoming the first African American woman to achieve this feat since the legendary Debi Thomas in 1988.

Andrews is excited to share her passion and love of ice skating with future generations. By joining the Unity Ice family she is returning to the beginning steps of what made her fall in love with the sport: having fun and being free on the ice.
